Latest News
We had a great event at the Grantown Highland Games last Sunday. Vicki, Graham and Vicki’s friend Heather set up the stall and Laura and Sue went at lunchtime and carried on the good work. We had children’s Lucky Dip, that was very popular, Teddy Tombola, Guess the name of the Teddy, (Stav from The Revack won him), Bric a Brac and the PDS merchandise. We made in total £190.05.
Scotland/Reading new total is now £2656.91.
We still have quite a bit of stuff left so are going to try and do one more event, may be Motormania if we can get a pitch. Quite a few people said how good it was to see an official Parkinson’s stand at a Games as so many people know someone with Parkinson’s so after we have sold the guest house we are hoping to get together with PDS and get them to take their purpose built education unit to a couple of Highland Games a year and we will do some children’s games.

READING & SCOTLAND
Laura, Sue, Vicki and Graham Walters list of fundraising activities.
(updated 8th July 2008)
The Scottish/Reading fundraising efforts have had mixed fortunes. A very successful event was held at the Revack Restaurant by kind permission of Stav and Karen and also Fiona of the Cairngorm Farmer's market who loaned us a stand and tables and even came and helped us set up and take the stand down as well. We had a bric a brac stall, lucky dips, teddy tombola, pick a straw, guess the name of the teddy
and guess the number of sweets in a jar. Approx £250.00 was raised.
Another similar event was planned on 22nd June in Inverness at the weekly car boot sale, (again thanks for the offer of a free pitch and also to Dulnain Village Hall for the loan of the folding tables); unfortunately rain stopped play and the two car loads of goodies did not even get unloaded, all very frustrating.
Sale of raffle tickets is going well and Laura is doing a final push to get as many sold by the 30th June deadline. Once the draw has taken place we will put a list of prizes, their donors and winners here.
Laura is also planning bag packing in Reading at a major supermarket and obviously she needs to organise another fun day in Scotland to replace the last one, we might try to do it at one of the local Highland Games.
At Rosegrove Guesthouse the fundraising table with pens, pencils, pin badges and greetings cards continues to be a great success, very many thanks to all guests for their generous donations. We have decided to keep this fundraising going even after the trek.

Why should you give money to The PDS?
The Parkinson’s Disease Society (PDS) provides support, advice and information to sufferers, carers, families and friends, and to health and social services professionals involved in management and care.
-
-
The freephone Helpline service, staffed by nurses & expert advisors, deals with more than 17,000 enquiries a year by telephone, email and letter.
-
The PDS has spent more than £30million researching all aspects of Parkinson’s.
-
In 2006, PDS committed almost £4million to research.
-
The PDS are researching causes of the disease, its prevention, improved care, treatments & possible cures, as well as campaigning for high quality health and social care for all sufferers and their carers.
-
Since 1992 The PDS has invested more than £7million in developing Specialist Parkinson’s Nurse posts.
|

The money that we raise will make a massive difference to the lives of Parkinson’s sufferers. |
How will James and Laura Walters raise their money?
The PDS are aiming to raise a minimum of £100,000 for their charity. In order for Laura and myself to be allowed to take part in the Peru Trek 2008 we have to raise a minimum of £5,600, which has to be paid to PDS no later than 25th July 2008, which is 10 weeks before the trek.
As my father is a sufferer of Parkinson's i know the direct impact it has on his and our family's life, so we want to do as much as we can to help all people affected by Parkinson's. We want to smash the £5,600 target and need your help to do it.
Since I moved to Birmingham, my father, mother and younger sister moved to Scotland, and my sister Laura moved to Reading we are planning to do a number of activities in each of those locations, which will give us the best opportunity to raise a large sum of money for the charity.
I will be adding more information for each of the events as soon as it is available, as well as adding images from each event to the gallery section.
